Re: Petition for an unfair Engineering mathematics 4 exam
We, the student of B-Tech electrical engineering wrote an Engineering Mathematics 4( EMT480-1) exam on the 21st of October 2019. We feel that the exam was very unfair due to the following reasons:
- The scope was very misleading as to what actually came on the exam.
- The memorandum of the assignment had many errors.
- The assignment are marked late , some of the students haven't received their marks yet.
Unisa being an online distance learning, were you study at your own space, we rely on the guidelines of the Assignments, scope and other materials to assist us in the preparation for the Exam. The scope given made reference to the assignment which was not the case with the exam. Should there be any Deviations, the lecturer is supposed to give us the correct Scope that will be relevant with the exam.
We humbly request that you look into the issue and grant those that didn’t make it a second chance in a form of supplementary, re-write or any other means the UNISA recommends. We hope this will get your favorable consideration.

I honestly cannot believe how many of you have jumped on board with this because the momentum is just incredible right now. It feels like we are finally being seen especially after all the stress from that exam prep and the nightmare of those assignment errors which honestly just keeps me up at night thinking about how frustrating it all was.

Good day I am supporting the petition as what is stated is true and I feel like the lecture did not give us straight answers as I asked a question regarding the MEMO there were errors on the MEMO itself on questions I am confident that I answered correctly.
The exam was really unfair, plus the tutorial letter mentioned in black and white: “it is enough to study only the method based on partial fraction equation while studying for Z-transform, Discrete signals and systems, but another method was asked on the exam which many students didn’t bother to study. Misleading tutorial letter, misleading scope, very unfair.
You lead us towards assignments and nothing came from there, did past papers from 2015 and never came across such questions before. Unisa is long distance learning we relie on past papers and assig
Assignments are still not marked and the memos made available to us later than what it should have been, was full of errors. Incorrect memos cause even more confusion because now we don't know whether our work is wrong or right...
Please consider the re-write on the maths exam. It is really unfair to study the whole year only to find the exam consists of things out of scope. We working and doing other modules. It is not easy preparing for exams especially if we dont get support from our lectures.

Scope given took us away from exam paper (not talking to Exam), though said to be Exam. Our focus was purposely diverted away from actual exam paper by Exam scope and tend to believe it was set to make sure most fail.
