The Rego Park Green Alliance is a nonprofit organization working to improve creativity, education, sustainability and economic investment in Queens, NY. We have many success stories installing gardens and murals in Queens that initiated economic investment, and promoted community action in many neighborhoods. Through the center of many of our communities, run lines of highways and railroads under which thousands of commuters, children and residents pass regularly for access to transportation, work, schools and daily necessities. These underpasses are unavoidable for residents and in all cases are neglected, covered with graffiti and are overall an eye sore in the center of main street thoroughfare. The UnderPassArt Project will transform unsightly walls and unused spaces under highways, tracks and elevated roadways into gallery walls to enhance daily pathways and bring attention to important issues locally and globally or just beautify the space with paintings and drawings. They would now serve as exhibit venues for local artists, photographers, neighborhood schools and community organizations. Neighborhoods will benefit from instant improvement of the highly used walkways while artists will gain exposure and permanent and renewable space.

The underpass near the station looks like a dump. Anything is better than the current mess.

YES PLEASE. walking home at night is so depressing. some nice color and art would change the whole vibe of the neighborhood.

It beats looking at peeling paint and grime every single day on my walk to the train.

Great idea. Keep the local kids occupied and make the streets look like somewhere people actually want to live.
