PROPOSAL - PETITION

To grow a Living Landmark on the Hudson Waterfront

in New York City

Concept - Design - Photography

LAURENCE TAMACCIO ARCHITECT

Digital Rendering

MARIJA SPAIC-WHITE ARCHITECT

The undersigned members of Manhattan’s Upper West Side and the Manhattan community at large support the Proposal to beautify and green the West Side Highway along Riverside Boulevard, Riverside Park South and the Manhattan West Side Greenway by growing an ivy covered trellis arbor on a lightweight wire rod and cable system installed alongside the road structure.

This arbor treatment will create a grand promenade of living green columns and arches that will link the midtown piers at West 59th Street, the south entrance to Riverside Park South with historic Riverside Park at West 72nd Street, the north section of Riverside Park South.

Growing TheVineLine will infinitely enhance the visual appearance of the West Side Highway structure, now named Joe Dimaggio Highway, blending it with the landscape environment of the Greenway transforming its presence from an infamous eyesore to and aesthetically harmonious linear Living Landmark.

TheVineLine will become an invaluable and continuously sustainable asset to our community in keeping with historic precedence and  traditions of civic park landscape design in New York City.

Seeing the momentum grow for this living landmark is exhausting but necessary work. I am grateful for those who see the vision behind this trellis despite the heavy resistance we face.

Great idea. Keep the city alive and make the waterfront actually worth walking by.

Yes please! The waterfront is so boring right now. This is exactly the kind of project NYC needs.

This would look unreal along the water. We need more green spaces in the city instead of just more concrete buildings everywhere!
