To: Ellvena Graham, MD & Head of Ulster Bank in Northern Ireland

From: The people of Donaghadee

Ref: Your decision to abandon Donaghadee

We the undersigned express our anger and disappointment at the decision of the Ulster Bank to abandon the traders and residents of Donaghadee.

Our community has supported the Ulster Bank since it opened in Donaghadee before the First World War. Yours is now the only bank within a six mile radius and we are surprised that you have taken the decision to close the branch rather than capitalise on your unique position.

We now call on you to reverse your decision to close the branch and instead continue to serve your customers in Donaghadee.

If you will not reverse your decision, then we need to know that you will continue to serve our thriving business community and residents by guaranteeing at the very least a minimum service of:

The continued provision of an ATM.

The provision of a counter service via the Post Office, and

The appointment of a Donaghadee-specific official who will serve us if only via regular clinics held in the town.

We look forward to a favourable response to our petition.

the traders in the town need an accessible bank as do the members of the public. My mother is 81 and cannot comprehend how she will manage her money in an anonymous bank in Bangor.

so now traders are at risk of muggings if the bank is closed as there is nowhere else for them to bank their takings

I opened an account with the Ulster Bank when the Northern closed to support a business which was staying in the town. I'll now be closing that account. If Ulster Bank has no commitment to Donaghadee, I have no commitment to it.

Yet another blow to the town's economy. Government has a huge stake in RBS and needs to step in. Taking the last bank out of a town with a catchment area of 10,000 is a devastating blow.

Donaghadee is a thriving community with over 100 new homes under construction and another 300 in planning. The economic prospects are improving following approx £4M in lottery and Public Realm funding. We need a bank in our town.

There are other banks in Bangor and Ards that are easier for disabled people with walking difficulties to park and get to. Don't fordce me to choose. I have stuck with Ulster Bank and don't feel my loyalty has been rewarded in any way.
