New Zealand Post has announced today – Friday the 13th of May – the closure of many of its Post Shops including the Dunedin Metro Post Shop and Kiwibank. The Dunedin Metro Post Shop is a busy and useful facility for Dunedin people, organizations and businesses. It is conveniently located in the centre of the CBD, and unlike other city post shops has parking available. It has a large number of PO Boxes with all day access for large parcels. It is nearby to cafes and hotels and other accommodation. It is used by a wide variety of people including tourists, locals, beneficiaries, business people, organizations and others. It is a one stop shop, it is in the traditional centre of Dunedin, and if closed people will be forced to travel to South or North Dunedin, or go to the congested and hard to access Moray Place post office on the other side of the Octagon. This is more than a business it is a community facility and should be seen by New Zealand Post as an investment in their profile and brand. Most of all it is staffed by some excellent workers who always treat customers in a friendly, efficient and high quality way! This is a bad decision by New Zealand Post.
