We, the community surrounding Wilkinson Public School, support the installation of a signalled intersection on Donlands Ave. at Fielding Ave. to replace the existing pedestrian crossing in front of Wilkinson Public School.

I am gathering safety data to present to the city council. The stories you shared about near misses are helping me build a strong case.

The momentum is incredible. This shows how many people care about safety at our school.

This will help keep pedestrians safe during non-school hours, e.g. pickup/dropoff at Dandylion daycare centre.

Please help make our streets safer for the next generation. In light of the many traffic incidents we have had in TO over the past few months, we concerned parents would like to have a traffic signal installed at Donlands and Fielding Ave. Our address is: 20 Rivercourt Blvd., and our daughter needs to cross busy Donlands to get to Donland Station.

I have worked at Wilkinson 18 years, and have seen many near misses involving our students and drivers exceeding the speed limits of a school zone. Traffic lights would keep everyone safer!

I agree with the installation of traffic lights. I have even witnessed a police officer who was working at the crosswalk almost get hit by a driver when the crosswalk lights were flashing. Drivers speed up and down Donlands on a regular basis. Milverton Blvd

I strongly feel that a light is absolutely necessary for the students to cross here. This school starts from Junior Kindergarten and is located on a major busy street. While some drivers are careful, a lot speed through. It would be very hard to spot young children crossing here. There is also a daycare across from the school.

Cars race through and past that cross-walk. At an accident will happen if a light doesn't go in. Additionally the subway station at Donlands makes that section of road too chaotic for all the kids going through this area.

FYI Here's an interesting article. http://www.streetsblog.org/2011/04/26/to-get-safer-streets-traffic-lights-and-stop-signs-arent-the-answer/ Check out the "neckdown". That's what could go on the south-bound lane as well. PS 64 Eaton Ave (so, I know what 127 Aldwych has to contend with on her street some on-street parking and neckdowns would go a long way to calming traffic on that "short cut" between Pape and Donlands (plus, it would give the city licence to go after those people who park their over-sized vehicles on under-sized illegal (?) parking pads, overhanging or even blocking the sidewalk there :).

Hi, great idea to improve safety of the crossing at Fielding, but, I'm concerned that a stop light will lull drivers and pedestrians into a false sense of security. Drivers because the stop light stops them from having to think about safety, and, similarly, pedestrians because they've been conditioned to think "walk light is on, cross NOW". Additionally, Fielding is 200 m from Donlands and Danforth, another stoplight. When drivers are confronted with traffic control (stop sign or stop light) measures where they don't expect them to be (e.g. 200 m from the previous light on a fast moving road... people drive 11 m/s or 40 km/h or more on Donlands) they'll frequently choose not to pay attention to the stop sign or the stop light. Since Fielding is so close to Donlands and Danforth that's something that concerns me. Most of us likely have encountered the situation at Carlaw & McConnel (NE corner of Withrow Park). A few weeks ago I counted 4/32 cars stopping at that stop sign with a fair number all but ignoring it. I suspect people don't think they should have to stop there because there's a speed bump only a few dozen meters earlier and the stop light is only 200 m earlier (plus, many people use Carlaw as a short cut to head south beyond Gerrard so they're trying to treat Carlaw as if it were a thoroughfare... the section north of Riverdale Ave really ought to be turned into a one-way heading north). Cops have a directive to work on implementing a campaign slogan from our mayor about the convenience of car commuters, but, I digress. Personally, I feel that traffic calming (rather than control) measures on Donlands would be a better and safer choice than a stop light. For that matter, I think that status-quo may even be marginally safer than a stop light. The north-bound lane has a permanent structure in the outer lane. A similar structure on the south-bound lane would force drivers to (a) slow down and (b) pay attention to pedestrians. On-street parki
