An increasing number of vehicles are not stopping or slowing down for pedestrians at the zebra crossing on New Mills Road. Traffic from both directions - the bypass & New Mills travel at excessive speed on the stretch of road from the Kinder Lodge to Hallams Garage and as a result are unable to slow down or stop at the zebra crossing in time. The zebra crossing is invaluable for residents on Chapel Rd/MeadowsRd and Ridge Top Lane, as well as for parents and children using Blue Grass Purple Cow Nursery and worshippers of St John’s Church.
A zebra crossing is no longer sufficient in keeping pedestrians safe on this road and further traffic calming measures are needed.

As a staff member at Blue Grass Purple Cow Nursery, I feel that something needs to be done fast about this particular crossing, as it is causing some concern for the children, parents and staff safety when arriving and leaving the nursery premises. I cross this road myself every morning and I feel it is a big risk, especially with young children around.
This is a very dangerous stretch of road and I agree that a 20 mph limit is needed - and the 40 mph on the bypass reduced to 30 mph as vehicles zoom in off that road and don’t seem to see the crossing. Something must be done before a serious accident happens - traffic calming, lower speed limits, better signage - whatever it takes to protect lives.
I use this zebra crossing often with my children and vehicles regularly fail to stop. There are too many distractions for drivers as they are looking beyond the crossing at the adjoining roads and the busy junction with the A624. It needs to be converted to a crossing with traffic lights.
Significant number of cars, vans and lorries look at the straight section of road and plough on through with no regard to the speed limit. So, so many times I've been stood at the zebra crossing and drivers just do not acknowledge it's there. Add to this the ever growing number of cars parked on the pavement on both sides of the road and living on this road is becoming increasingly dangerous.
We have 2 small children and live on Nee Mills Rd, the traffic speeds up and there are so many distractions going on all at the same time, road junctions, cars parked, pedestrian crossings, it’s potentially very dangerous for elderly, children, people with pushchairs, dogs etc, thanks
0421/13 Petition - Traffic Calming on New Mills Road - Hayfield Paris Council resolved to support this petition on 7th April 2021. The Council believes replacing the zebra crossing with pelican crossing wild be the most effective and lawful traffic calming measure
I use this road daily and agree.

I’ve noticed drivers come off the bypass much too fast and are not prepared to stop at the zebra crossing. The pavement there is very narrow and feels extremely unsafe particularly when HGVs are coming fast off the bypass or turning right off the bypass with danger from the articulation overhang. A pedestrian crossing with lights and better signage may be more appropriate.
