Traffic calming measures needed on New Mills Road, Hayfield

0421/13 Petition - Traffic Calming on New Mills Road - Hayfield Paris Council resolved to support this petition on 7th April 2021. The Council believes replacing the zebra crossing with pelican crossing wild be the most effective and lawful traffic calming measure

I use this road daily and agree.

Absolutely, similar principles apply at the crossing in Low Leighton on the same road

I’ve noticed drivers come off the bypass much too fast and are not prepared to stop at the zebra crossing. The pavement there is very narrow and feels extremely unsafe particularly when HGVs are coming fast off the bypass or turning right off the bypass with danger from the articulation overhang. A pedestrian crossing with lights and better signage may be more appropriate.

Will nothing be done until there is an accident? Please improve the crossing before this happens.

Cars are travelling to fast along a tight road. It isn't safe

Stop spending vehicles ,keep safe

With the nursery so close, the road is always a worry as the cars are often fast, and it’s especially worrying when such big lorry’s go passed too. This definitely needs looking at to make it as safe as possible.

Stood there many a time and traffic ignores crossing.

The current crossing arrangement is simply not enough to prevent accident and injury. I often witness vehicles travelling at excessive speeds and, especially during poor weather conditions, not stopping in time for pedestrians to cross. This is so dangerous given the number of families with young children who use this crossing. Please keep them and other users safe by installing a pedestrian crossing before it is too late.

Urgent action is needed to slow all traffic down on new mills road.

As a staff member at Blue Grass Purple Cow Nursery, I feel that something needs to be done fast about this particular crossing, as it is causing some concern for the children, parents and staff safety when arriving and leaving the nursery premises. I cross this road myself every morning and I feel it is a big risk, especially with young children around.

I have stopped many times at the crossing to let people cross only for a speeding idiot coming off the bye pass from Chapel way. It is a miracle nobody has been hit!!!!

My daughter and I nearly got run over on that crossing just then, so this is definitely a big problem on that road

Totally agree. What about cars speeding in excess of 40 mpg on the bypass. Speed cameras must not be working
