The Tufts Park Dog Owners Group of Medford, Massachusetts hereby request the allowance of neighborhood dogs to continue to run and play off leash at Tufts Park in a responsible and supervised manner. We ask that enforcement of city ordinance chapter 62 article III, sec 62-95, which calls for a $200 fine for having a dog off leash at the park, be ignored, as it has been for many years. In exchange for this leniency, we pledge to keep the park clean of all dog waste and litter. We promise to have all dogs under vocal control at all times. All dogs will be confined to the rear section of the park (which is a largely unused space). Excessive barking, aggressive behavior and disobedience will not be tolerated. We will police ourselves, as we have for years, without need for city intervention. We assure the city of Medford that we are a well organized, responsible group of dog owners. We have built a great sense of community amongst ourselves and our neighbors, solely because of our common use of the park. The loss of this daily communal experience would be a detriment to the quality of our lives, and to the physical and mental health of our beloved pets.
