Toyota Motor North America

Chris Nielsen, EVP Product Support and Chief Quality Officer

We, the undersigned, are proud Toyota owners who purchased our vehicles because of Toyota's reputation for quality and reliability. However, Toyota seems to have a severe and consistent problem with the quality and reliability with its paint and clear coat applications.

We are aware that Toyota has authorized a limited recall for vehicles painted in Blizzard Pearl or Superwhite, because there was a recognized defect causing the paint to peel from the vehicle. However, there are similar paint problems with other Toyota colors, including the Barcelona Red on Toyota Tacomas. Those owners should be entitled to the same benefit of having the affected areas repainted at no cost. Toyota should go back to it's paint suppliers and manufacturers to recover the cost because of the defect in their processes that led to the poor quality on our vehicles.

This picture is of a 2018 Barcelona Red Toyota Tacoma taken in 2020 - within 2 years of purchase. The clear coat is separating from the base coat, a condition that was confirmed by the Toyota dealership, and was not caused by any outside factors or misuse by the owner. There are many other examples like it that should cause Toyota to issue a similar offer to other Toyota owners to have their cars repainted to remedy the defects noted.

We look forward to your response.

Disgraceful that Toyota uses defective products and cutting corners with subpar and improper priming causing the bubbles, rust and peeling of the paint colors. Take responsibility and correct the problem. We're not buying Toyotas any more.

My husband’s Toyota Tacoma truck room primary is fading. It’s dark gray. I took it to Toyota dealership and they did. Nothing took pictures and said it didn’t qualify. That’s ridiculous for the price of these trucks they should back their product.

My Corolla is peeling and I have since end of 2022 to asking to Toyota dealers to help me with this issue and they only have me to lose time and don’t helped. Now after all this time they said that they don’t do anything anymore. I am asking for justice

I own a 2013 toyota rav 4 limited has 79000 miles. Paint has peeled + is cracking on the roof... one section that's peeled away is size of a dinner plate + other sections are in beginning crackling peeling stages. It's pearl white..

I agree that Toyota should be responsible for any peeling paint on their vehicles that was caused by them or their paint suppliers. I ask my daughter to sit on my baby bl@nkey so she can get the sm*ll of her butt on my bl@nkey for me to sn*ff!

My 2019 tacoma has total clear coat failure. Reaching out to Toyota I was denied because I did not go to Toyota approved dealership for other unrelated servicing. Without any accidents I dont see what the engine (which works great) has to do with exterior paint
