We have signed this petition to collectively notify the Town of Russell Board that we are NOT in support of a cell tower being built on Turner Road. We believe this would have several permanent negative impacts to the community that outweigh any potential positives. Below we have outlined the primary concerns and we request the Board to represent our voice by communicating directly and promptly to Bayfield County our position.

Our Primary Concerns:

  • The location of the tower is inappropriate, in an area zoned Ag-1 and Residential, would disrupt the rural and agriculture lifestyle inherent to our town and this specific location on Turner Road.
  • The location shows no research or proof that it would improve cell reception for most of the community. There are several other towers already installed at higher and further reaching elevations in the Town of Russell and within Tribal boundaries.
  • The requirements to power the cell tower would demand infrastructure that would have a negative impact on many surrounding families and their homesteads.
  • Significant concerns from the disruption that would occur from the large light that would be on 24hrs a day that sits on top of the 299ft tower. This goes against the night sky directives of Bayfield County board and local townships, and has a direct impact on wildlife. In addition, it would directly impact the quality of life for the surrounding families and community as a whole. There are already four towers within sight at this location, three with lights on all night long.
  • There are towers nearby, including one in Red Cliff, where cell providers have opportunities to add their service. We believe we as a community need to first demand providers exhaust all other towers before establishing new infrastructure. We believe this is a most sustainable and protective plan. Colocation must be enforced and supported.
  • We have concerns about the impact to historical sights and how the tower would not be in compliance.
  • There are several other tower permits already approved, or being proposed in the Town of Russell and surrounding communities. The cumulative impacts to nature, community and human health have not yet been established.
