The local council is ignoring our concerns about the pitch replacement so we need to put more pressure on them today. Email your local representative and tell them that replacing our facility hurts the hockey community. We are scheduling a meeting to discuss these plans and your signatures are the reason we have a seat at the table.

Having played hockey for years it’s a sport that caters for all ages. It’s a family friendly sport and having started playing at aged 13 now in my 50’s I still have friends since then. It will be a shame that the facilities for hockey will be lost to this club.
Replacing with a 3G pitch represents a loss of provision, as such surfaces are have been classed as unsafe for Hockey by the East League. The local council should reconsider and find a solution that allows all stakeholders to continue in their use of the facilities.
3G pitches will destroy club hockey. Thetford isn’t the only club this is happening to - just in Huntingdonshire alone St Neots moved pitches a few years ago, Huntingdon Ladies lost Hinchingbrooke and St Ives faces losing their pitch to 3G. Multi purpose pitches that suit all please!
It makes me angry that they are going to do this! We try to promote healthy lifestyles for children and get them away from computer screens, so why stop them doing something they love while keeping fit, interacting with friends and learning about teamwork!!
Hockey has been a massively successful sport in the uk over recent years and it is crucial for the sport that facilities remain available to develop the sport! Please consider the value of multi sport surfaces as all sport should be promoted and not just football
Thetford Hockey Club have a long established history in the town and provided sporting opportunities to a huge number of young and older players. Supporting a range of sports should be high on the local authorities agenda rather than the narrow focus of this council.
Disgraceful. We should be encouraging diversity in sport. Not every child wants to play football. People can take so much from playing this sport including team skills and many social opportunities. All this will do is limit the opportunities for families and young people to participate in physical activity.

Could someone from the council explain why football takes priority over hockey! There is one hockey pitch in Thetford whereas there are loads of football pitches.... If you need more football pitches, Hears a though you could re-instate the pitches on Barnham common.
