I was once a CNA, I am all too familiar with the need for bed bound patients to pass bowel movements but can not leave bed. What options do we currently have for those patients? Very painful bed pans that leave bruises on the patient, highly unsanitary bed pads that end up with feces all over the sheets and patient, or a diaper which is equally unsanitary and makes some patients feel like children. Also, the CNA changes & bathes patients and their sheets over 20 times per shift after every bowel movement or mictoration . I knew that I had to do something when one of my patients fell trying to get to the bathroom because he was done being confined to such a nasty way of disposal. He needsTHE AIDE and it will allow patients to use the restroom normally in bed. It will have a removable insert almost midway in the bed. Once the insert is removed there is a disposable lining to be put around the opening for sanitary reasons. The nurse/patient can then adjust the top of the bed to the patients comfort, they can pass urine and feces through the opening into the pan waiting below the insert. Now that the patient has passed into the pan below, the nurse can simply wipe the patient, remove the disposable lining from the opening, dump the pan, and replace the insert, transforming the potty to the bed again, COMPLETELY sanitarily. This system will be great for bed bound patients, family members, and healthcare staff, even eliminating the need for catherization of 75% of the patients.
