We, the undersigned, are a diverse group of University of Michigan students interested in improving the quality and safety of the delivery of health care. We would like to express our strong interest in the creation of a Patient Safety Design Competition, as proposed by Dr. John Gosbee of the UMHS Office of Clinical Affairs. This competition would help us apply our education in a tangible and constructive manner to help address some of the patient safety problems that exist today, and would also provide us with valuable experience in interdisciplinary collaboration. This petition will be used to gather support and involvement of leadership, including key decision makers at the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health, Nursing, Pharmacy, Business, and Engineering. The contact information will also be used as part of a list of interested personnel to which we will send the eventual call for entries for the competition in early 2009. Thank you very much.
