Saskatoon Farmers' Market is brimming full of untapped potential. As we celebrate it's 40th year anniversary the need to keep the market growing and progressive has never been more relevant.
Currently, the Farmers' Market building is open 6 days a week (Tuesday - Sunday) but you will only see a range of vendors half of this time. That's right, on only three of six days (Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday) are local merchants and farmers available. What you will find the other half of the time is a restaurant, a bakery and one store and a very vacant building.
There is increasing pressure from the City of Saskatoon for the Farmers' Market to perform better. The area surrounding The Farmers' Market is bustling with new growth in businesses and expensive condos. It has been said that if the growing needs of this area are not met the City may decide to re-evaluate their valuable property and potentially relocate or replace the Saskatoon Farmer' Market.

The silence from the board is becoming hard to ignore. I keep walking through that empty building on the quiet days and it feels like a missed opportunity that hurts us all. We are not giving up because the vision of a full market is still worth fighting for.

I agree the space could be put to better use however remember most venders are doing this as a supplement to their income and are not able to sustain a business 6 days a week. Perhaps you need to move to a better location?
I think it would not just benefit Saskatoon and area to have a more available market, but also the tourism scene. I have worked at the market in the past and there was an alarming number of tourists, who were disappointed to find the market itself draped and empty.
They do need to grow in my 5 years of being/ working at the market I've seen alot of farmers leave abd is sad. It needs fresh blood and new ideas and more vendors. They have a ton of vendor application but refuse to give them a chance. Because of politics and clicks. It's time for change. Oh and more events
Sounds like a great idea.Now if only there was a solution to the parking crises there. I have gone several times and could find no place to park and left.It would be helpful for seniors to.
Living outside of Saskatoon, I am not sble to be in city on wkends, so would benefit and use a market open other days
I miss the farmers market. Truly the heart of Saskatoon
Time to evolve. This sounds like the start of a great vision for the future of SFM.

All for the growth of fresh n quality goods, I think as the area grows so will the need, I se so much development there and no real grocery stores in the area.. thus the need for more available times to shop and enjoy!
