We are asking you to vote yes for House Bill 2312 for the statewide sickle cell disease program. The bill provides for coordinated services for Sickle Cell Disease and Sickle Cell Trait. Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited blood disorder that can result in many health complications including painful episodes, infections, and organ failure. Although those who have Sickle Cell Trait are viwed as only carriers of the disease many athletes with Sickle Cell Trait have passed away due to massive sickling of the blood cells due to overexertion and dehydration. The bill provides for much needed education, genetic counseling, free trait screening, and community support. Curently there are services for the disease and trait are little to nonexistent across the state. This bill would improve the quality of life for those impacted by this debilitating disease.

About time something was done for these families. Ridiculous that we have to fight for basic medical support in this state.

Education is key. So many people have no clue what this disease does to a persons body. Yes to HB 2312.
