We the undersigned would like to formally request that the spur road leading to the hang glider launch site above Burcham Flat be added to the Motor Vehicle Use map or otherwise remain accessible. Were it to be added to the MVU it would be designated FS32167B and is located at Lat: 38.39027, Long: -11937875. It's a road that has served the hang glider community for many years and is therefore more than just a random spur. The whole spur follows a contour less than a quarter mile across a bench so it contributes less to erosion than many of the random spurs that otherwise direct runoff into steep ruts or cut through meadows. As a community that supports the wise use of the public back country, we appreciate efforts to minimize harmful vehicle access and otherwise shepherd the conservation of the wild beauty of our public lands. We feel that this particular road provides a higher than average public benefit with a lower than average impact and are hereby petitioning to have it remain open to the public.

The momentum behind this request confirms the importance of maintaining access to the launch site for our community. This collective backing demonstrates the value of our proposal to the broader public and provides a strong foundation for our upcoming discussions with land management officials.

Please keep this road open to support this low impact/high value use of public lands.

Use of this road and site has been well established and warrants continuation for the free flight community. Please help keep access open for this share use at Sweetwater.

This is a critical site for hang gliders since there’s no other accessible location in the Sweetwater range that is safe for taking off. Let’s work together with the Forest Service for a mutually beneficial outcome, which has been done in the past for other launch sites in the US.

Please keep this open! It’s a tremendous benefit when I hang glide here. If there’s a way to control erosion or better protect the ecosystem, we would be happy to help out and contribute!

Please preserve access to this longstanding hang gliding launch by keeping the spur road open (FS32167B).

The purpose of the MVU is to eliminate unnecessary roads on USDA Forest Service land. Not to eliminate access to longstanding and legal activity on USDA Forest Service land. Please do the right thing and keep this critical access road open to those enjoying recreation on USDA Forest Service land.

Dear US Forest Service, it appears that USGS is working to diminish erosion in the Sweetwater Range near Bridgeport Ca. I approve of this effort, as many roads are becoming gullies and creating problems for the watershed . There is one particular short road that is valuable as an access to a hang gliding launch which has important commercial value for the nearby community of Bridgeport. This particular road is about 1300 feet long at aprox geodetic coordinate of N 38.380 W 119.380 . I have used this launching point for the last 9 years , and i spend quite a bit of money in stores in Bridgeport during the summer . It would harm the economy of Bridgeport to close this short stretch of road to the Sweetwater Launch site. The grade of this road is not very steep and it hasn't gullied. Please keep it open , thank you, Charles Nelson
