The Sandlick/Bigbend area is located in the Daniel Boone National Forest outside Slade, KY. It has been open to highway legal vehicle use for decades. Currently the area is designated open to highway legal vehicles by the United States Forest Service (USFS) but it is not an "official" Trail System eligible for grants and funding . The USFS is about to propose an action in the area that may adversely affect vehicular access. The area is in need of "official" Trail System Status in order to gain proper funding, management, and stewardship in order to continue to provide vehicular access to the beautiful scenery while allowing users to gain a wilderness experience in an environmentally sound and sustainable way. Signing this petition simply means you support the development of an "official" Vehicular Trail System. An "official" vehicular Trail System system would result in eligibility for funding/grants, a positive impact to the local economies, and focused efforts on sustainable use of the public forest.
I have been spent the last few days in the woods observing the decline of these trails firsthand. It is clear that without formal management the land will continue to suffer from neglect. I am currently preparing my notes to present to the local forest office to show them exactly what this community wants for our heritage.

My family has been enjoying the area for years four wheeling, hiking, camping , etc. Being able to explore the great outdoors in our Jeep as a family has been fabulous. Many memories! I hope to see my son drive his first Jeep on the same trails that I have been on for the past 14 years. We love this place so much that we have bought a cabin in slade and bring many people down to the area. Revenue for the local town!

Keep these trails open! We have been riding sandlick for 20 years and it would be a huge shame to lose access to such a great spot.

NEED OFFICIAL TRAILS ASAP. The current state is a mess. If it gets official funding we can keep it clean and safe for everyone on the road. Do the right thing.
