Final supporters
We have been informed that our permit to rent our canoes, kayaks, and row boats from the Rollins Pond boat launch will likely not be renewed next year. Our hope is that a show of public support will change that! The Paeglow family has been renting boats from the boat launch at Rollins Pond Campground since 1955, when Rollins Pond was established. Prior to that, the Paeglow's rented canoes from neighboring Fish Creek Ponds, beginning in 1931 with just a few hand-made boats. I've spent summers up here, and know the family and business well, along with helping them for a few summers in high school. I know what the business means to people's experience in the Adirondacks, and taking it away, not just from the family, but from the campers isn't right.
Please continue to do so!! Not all of us have the means to pull a camper and still have a boat to use. Renewing this makes everyone's camping experience so much better. It would be a shame to not have this available.
I was the Caretaker from 2011-2014 and not only are the Peglows amazing at what they do but they are a staple at Rollins Pond.The very reason upon which the DEC camps were created was for local jobs and local revenue. This is going against the mission statement of the DEC.
I have been coming to Rollins Pond for the better part of 50 years and the Paeglow family boat rental has been a very special inviting fixture of Rollins Pond, ever since I was a young kid. Please don't change this. They have always provided a wonderful friendly, quality and safe service.
We rented our first canoe here 30 years ago and have rented kayaks several times. Somewhere in my files I have a photo of my son at age six in his first rental kayak on Rollins Pond. Rollins Pond would not be the same without the boat rental!
I don't know what is behind this decision but I do know that my family chose Rollins Pond this summer partly due to the on-site boat rentals and were very disappointed, and felt a bit deceived, when we found out the day before that there are no boat rentals at Rollins Pond. We did end up renting from Hickocks but it wasn't the same at all as having them right there, and hauling them over from Hickocks without a truck was too logistically complicated so we ended up simply paddling from there. Ironically, we never even made it all the way back in the kayaks to Rollins Pond! Although we have a reservation for next summer we will likely look elsewhere if there is no boat rental at Rollins pond. We don't have a truck or a trailer so bringing enough boats for our family group is not viable. Thank you.
Best rentals ever!!! Keep gov. out of private affairs and let family business flourish.

I brought my two children their camping when they were young. My son is now 41 and my daughter is 34 and they are still talking about what a great time they had and how they want to bring my grand kids there too. Please keep it going so that is possible.
