We, the undersigned residents, visitors, and other interested parties, support granting a seasonal liquor license to Axes & Bows, an exciting new venue at Salem Willows.
Axes & Bows will offer a unique and safe recreational experience, including axe throwing, archery for adults, and Nerf dart games for children while providing a welcoming space for enjoying food and drinks with friends and family.
Why Support Axes & Bows?
- Enhancing Salem Willows—Axes & Bows will complement existing attractions, offering a new recreational option for adults while maintaining the neighborhood's family-friendly spirit. This is not a "rowdy bar"—it is a thoughtfully designed entertainment venue.
- Economic & Community Benefits – The venue will bring jobs to Salem, support local businesses, and attract responsible tourism. A vibrant, well-maintained commercial space helps sustain the Willows as a lively and desirable destination.
- Respect for the Community – Axes & Bows is committed to working with neighbors to address concerns about noise, parking, and operations. The owner has a proven track record of responsible business practices and community engagement.
The Opposition’s Concerns – Addressed
Some residents have expressed concerns about parking, noise, and alcohol service.
- Successful businesses, whether they sell alcohol or not, bring people—this is not a problem but a sign of vitality. Any thriving business at the Willows will naturally attract visitors. Denying a liquor license based on a fear of potential popularity is counterproductive to the area’s success.
- Noise will be controlled. Unlike loud arcades or bars, Axes & Bows will feature a relaxed atmosphere with acoustic or low-amplified music. There will be no late-night disturbances. Additionally, any successful business will contribute some activity—this is a natural part of a lively and engaging commercial district.

This can be just the injection of commerce and entertainment that will help keep the Willows alive for years to come. More foot traffic to the neighboring businesses, more jobs, and more reasons to visit the Willows. This is only a win for Salem and the Willows.
Great opportunity for economic viability in one of the most underserved locations in the city. This proposal is within the underlying zoning and find it reasonable for the licensing board to grant approval
There are bars all downtown Salem. There's nothing wrong with a reputable business bringing back life to the Willows. I grew up in Salem, raised my kids in salem, and I am in full support.
The Willows is dying, it needs some new ideas to rejuvenate it. This type of business is having success all over, as close by as Peabody. Why shouldn't an already established Salem small business also give it a try?
I think it would be a fine addition to the Willows. Having a liquor license will revitalize restaurant row. I have heard that the axe throwing establishment has a strict limit on alcohol consumption. I have often wished I could enjoy a cold adult beverage while at the Willows.
Let’s support the willows growth and revitalization!

I'd love something like this at the Willows. I live in the Derby St. neighborhood, and of course the venues here serve alcohol. We have very few issues with bars along Derby St. I hope my Willows neighbors will support this. Thanks!
