As you will be aware UBS and Sainsbury's has submitted a revised planning application to amend the foodstore proposed at the Meols Cop Retail Park in Southport. Sefton Council will make the final decision at the planning committee meeting, which is likely to be on 3 July 2019.

Ahead of this, if you support these plans, please sign this petition.

As a reminder, the benefits of our changes include:

  • The proposed store will be slightly smaller than that originally approved in 2016 but will still provide Sainsbury’s full range of food and non-food offerings such as Tu clothing and home accessories.
  • The smaller store will mean a 15% reduction in vehicle trips to the site helping to reduce congestion.
  • The store will now be built at ground floor level (rather than on stilts at first floor level as pre the approved scheme).
  • The building will now be almost 7 metres lower than the approved scheme which will significantly reduce any visual impact and offer more privacy to our neighbours

You can also contact our community relations team either via email to info@sainsburys-southport.co.uk, texting 07789 797130, calling 0800 319 6162or writing to RTLA-GHRX-SSXA, Local Dialogue, 77a Tradescant Road, London, SW8 1XJ and include your name and contact details.

We can then let you know when the planning committee details are confirmed. Nothing sends out a stronger message to councillors than a room full of supporters, so we’d love it if you could find the time to come along.

In the meantime, please do continue to spread the word by involving other members of your local community and telling them about the benefits a Sainsbury’s store could bring in Southport.

Thank you for your support and we hope to see you at committee when the date is confirmed. However, if you are unable to attend, I will write again to update you about the outcome of the planning committee meeting.
