*Please note: The donation option after signing is for the ipetition.com website and is in no way a donation to MED/CSD. I am not soliciting donations.

The purpose of this petition is to show support and desire for a second Pre-K classroom at MED (Chatham School District). The results of this petition will be shared with the school board. Unfortunately, at this time 12-14 children have been waitlisted since funding is only guaranteed (via grant funds) for one classroom for the 25-26 school year. The decision to fund the second classroom currently (appears to) weigh heavily on the school boards decision to move funds around or pull from the multi-million dollar reserve fund that has been set up for situations such as this.

Besides the fact that Pre-K should be available for ALL children as it prepares them for K-12, the children coming into this year’s Pre-K are peak “COVID babies”. They unfortunately, already have the odds stacked against them and many are already experiencing language, speech, and social delays. Clearly a global pandemic is no one person’s or entity’s fault. But it is on us to advocate for what can set these kids up for a better future! Please consider adding your signature to the petition to provide support. Thank you for your consideration!

The emails I receive from families stuck on the waitlist are heart-wrenching and remind me why we cannot let this go. I am spending my evenings trying to pin down board members on their stance regarding the reserve funds. It is exhausting work but these children deserve a fair start.

I am a retired elementary teacher of the district and former school board member. I strongly feel the district needs to find the funds to create a second Pre-K classroom. Early childhood education is critical in these times after the pandemic.

Growing up we were always told. “NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND” you’re leaving my son behind and it’s heart breaking

CCSD needs a second 2025 Pre-K class. The Chatham Town property tax paying parents with Pre-K children need and deserve a second class.

You are a public school, you have no right to take away pre-school for any child especially when you have enough kids to fill a classroom. Let the teachers and aides have the jobs they love, teaching the children!!!

Pre-K doesn’t just get young students ready for kindergarten. It sets them up to be successful throughout their academic years and beyond.
