On April 10th I strongly urge the Islands Trust to approve Salt Spring Metal Recycling’s Temporary Use Permit Application (SS-TUP-2013.2) on the following grounds:

1.It is an appropriate use for this property as it is already in very close proximity to other Industrial and Commercial uses, both sanctioned and unsanctioned.

2.The propertyis undesirable for residential use as it is directly under the BC Hydro high voltage power lines, and well water samples show the drinking water has Arsenic levels three times the legal limit.

3. The property has no agricultural value as it is situated on a shale bed.

4. The proposed operation is fenced and cannot be seen from Rainbow Road.

5. The proposed limited duration ofoperational times, and the proposed operation's sound levels,as indicated bythe professional audio consultant's report, willresult inan insignificant effect onneighbouring properties.

6. The proposed operation meets the standards of the Ministry of Environment.

7. The proposed operation provides a significant to benefit to Salt Spring Island by recycling huge volumes of scrap metal in an environmentally sensitive manner.

I would like to ask that this stay positive and constructive in the comments. I would also like to ask that if you are able to make it out to the meeting April 10th at the Lions Hall Salt Spring Metal Recycling needs your support to continue to serve the island with the service I provide at no cost to the tax payers of SSI.

The Islands Trust needs to see that we understand the reality of this site compared to the alternatives. Email your representative today and remind them that this property is unsuitable for housing due to the water quality and power lines.

The momentum behind this permit is growing because you are talking to your neighbors about why this site makes sense. Now I need you to translate that energy into actual presence at the meeting held at the Lions Hall. Bring your questions and show the committee that this facility is vital for our island.

The service that John Quesnel provides on SaltSpring Island is invaluable. It is needed to keep the island healthy. If this company is gone, residents could start hiding their junk cars away in the bush again, or rolling them off Mount Maxwell. How healthy is that for the environment?

Just where are these suitable pieces of land for John to relocate to? Also, as John pointed out recently... that residential neighbourhood is in Arsenic Alley! Their land values are already worth crap.

As a home owner on ssi, I see huge value for our community in fostering local sustainable businesses such as this one. The space proposed is not suitable for residential.

As a frequent visitor to Saltspring I have been witness to John Quesnel's business sight. It is clean, well run. and beneficial to maintaining an Island which remains free of, old metals.

I support Salt Spring Metal Recycling. The owner has done everything asked of him to ameloriate any impact on neighbours and it is a suitable use for this piece of property.

John Quesnel is a long time islander and works hard. The service he provides is necessary, he has spent so much time and money on environment clean up, yet has to fight daily to keep in business. This is wrong and our voices need to be heard! Leave the man and his families lively hood alone. What happens to all the waste if he goes? Do we then dump it all on the door step of islands trust? Use some common sense folks..
