This petition seeks to install a crosswalk, with a corresponding sign, on Edge Hill Road at the intersection with Garden St.
The streets along Edge Hill Rd. from East Milton Square to Cunningham Park are densely populated, and the sidewalks are well used by residents to walk to the schools, parks, restaurants, and local businesses. In addition, there is a popular bus stop at the corner of Edge Hill Rd. and Governors Rd. used by over a dozen Pierce Middle School and Milton High School students during the busy morning rush hour.
Yet, there are no crosswalks between Grafton Ave. and Westvale Rd., a full half mile stretch. As a result, Milton pedestrians can be seen walking and running across Edge Hill at various locations. This puts both the pedestrians and drivers at risk. With parked cars, sun glare, and other obstacles blocking their view, unsuspecting drivers may not be able to see crossing pedestrians.
An additional crosswalk on Edge Hill Road will encourage greater safety for both drivers and pedestrians and help to guide more predictable behavior. Drivers will become accustomed to looking for pedestrians at this particular location, and, hopefully, pedestrians will funnel their crossings to correspond with the crosswalk.
It defies logic that there should be such few crosswalks along this long and busy stretch of Edgehill Road. A crosswalk at this location would go a long ways to counter this illogical lack of crosswalks. Common sense and basic safety concerns both demand that this situation be rectified without delay. Thank you.
