• The I-5 N on-ramp is a bottleneck and source of congestion and confusion -for cars trying to navigate through and around this intersection, often ignoring pedestrians waiting to cross NE 70th St.
• Traffic volumes will continue to increase with the construction of hundreds of new apartments in the neighborhood and construction traffic from the Roosevelt Light Rail station accessing I-5 here.

I have submitted our initial application materials to the Neighborhood Park and Street Fund committee this week. My current focus is coordinating a site visit with a traffic engineer to review the pedestrian flow issues at the intersection. Expect a full summary of their feedback once that walkthrough is complete.

I live at 12th and 68th and in my experience crossing I-5 via 70th street is very dangerous for pedestrians. The intersection at 70th and 8th NE should be a priority for redesign. I have almost been hit by cars many times as they pull up to 70th aiming to either turn or continue straight onto the I-5 onramp without looking for pedestrians. Many residents from Green Lake will need to safely cross I-5 to get to the new Roosevelt light rail, but the improvements shouldn't wait until then. The affordable housing complex a block away from this intersection at Green Lake means this is an intersection the city should prioritize for pedestrians.
My wife and I strongly support this proposal. We have lived at 7108 9th Ave NE for 28 years and cross NE 70th at this point several times per week. A crosswalk and light are badly needed!
resident of area for 30 yrs., and terrified every time I cross that street - and I'm lots slower now! Do we have to wait and see who gets killed first?
I have a competing NPSF grant application that involves THIS SAME INTERSECTION. Clearly, this intersection/crossing needs attention. I hope that the city can set aside money on top of the NPSF grant money to take a good look at this area and make improvements.
much needed safety improvement considering the North side of the overpass has no sidewalk
from my personal experience, this intersection definitely needs to be made more safe for pedestrians.
Right now this area is serving no one well- foremost the pedestrians and cyclists that have to negotiate through this underdesigned area at unnecessary personal risk, and to the drivers who aren't being given clues (stoplights, signage) about the risk of this area. Thanks for doing this, it's much needed.

My son and I went through this terrifying intersection every morning during bike-to-school month. I marvelled at how far Seattle has to go before being truly bicycle-friendly. Kudos to Seattle resident Scott Cooper for getting this petition rolling.
