We, the undersigned HHC nurses, caregivers, patients, and community support the midwives of the North Bronx Healthcare Network. Midwives at North Central Bronx Hospital and Jacobi Medical Center have waitedmore than 5 yearsfor their first and only contract to be agreed upon. Meanwhile, we are losing experienced midwives and are unable to attract new ones. We need to continue to ensure the highest quality of care for the women and families of the Bronx that midwifery has been shown to provide.
The days keep stretching on and the lack of a contract is clearly taking a toll on the midwives who hold this system together. I spend my time outside of work chasing down people in power who prefer to say nothing rather than explain why this has been allowed to drag on for five years. It is exhausting work but the stories I hear from the patients keep me moving forward.

Reaching this point has been a long and draining road but seeing this level of backing keeps me going. The fight for these contracts is wearing us down yet this progress reminds me why we cannot stop now.

As a midwife at Bronx Lebanon I can sympathize with being undervalued and underpaid. We provide an amazing service to women that desperately need us!

These dedicated and hard working amazing midwives are caring for underserved women who would otherwise receive poor care. They must receive a fair contract immediately!

Five years with no contract is outrageous. How can JMC & NCB staff both busy services and care for their patients without the ability to hire and retain experienced midwives? Stop this inequity.
