Women of Attawapiskat, mothers, fathers,Mothers-to-be, Fathers-to-be, Sisters, Brothers, Family and friends. I want my voice heard. I am speaking for the Midwives of Attawapiskat and I am starting a petition! Starting tomorrow I'll be collecting signatures! Wives, Mothers, sisters and anyone that supports our community's Midwivery Services. Please come see me, message me, come to my home, sign if you support it too!

I fully support Midwives in our community. If there's anything that needs to go or be reduced, IT SHOULD NOT be the midwives programs.

While pregnant with my daughter I felt prepared, I didn't have to be flown out just to see a doctor for one hour every few weeks or months to monitor the health of my child or myself. My midwife was always there when I needed her. If not for our midwife, things would've been different and I'm glad for the way things worked out. If you want to know more, ask me about my experience and I will tell you.

We wanted our child to be born in our community, but due to risk of hurting our baby we were medivac'd out - but we had that choice and we should always have that right to choose.

Attawapiskat WANTS to keep the programs. We should have the right to choose where we birth our children! Don't take this from us.

Known research has pointed to burn out of healthcare workers where there are so few working in a community. Cutting back on midwifery services is not helping the cause of living in a good way? Most agree that keeping birth and additional midwives in a community is. Please do not limit midwives in Attawapiskat!

midwives are essential to families and communities. Midwifery in the north should be growing not limited.

Fully support family’s and women’s right to give birth how they want, where they want. Denying women proper midwifery care is potentially harmful. Having just had my first child, with care from midwives, I can’t imagine being denied the ability to have our midwives deliver our baby at the hospital.

Our children need to be born at home. The women and family are there to support the mother and baby. The men are involved. This is necessary for our communities to heal!!

You will be doing this community a disservice if you remove or limit the midwifery program. That will result in more expenses to fly pregnant women out for check ups, thus removing them from the comfort of their homes and their families especially during the birth of their child if they choose to have the baby in the community.

Woman and families should have the right to give birth in their communities! It is not right that they be forced to leave their communities and families to give birth in isolation. This program is vital to the healing of our people!

Self-determination and healing intergenerational suffering starts with choice of pregnancy and childbirth.
