The Cincinnati Birthing Community is saddened to hear that Mercy West no longer has midwives serving birthing patients due to Seven Hills dismissing their team of midwives.

Many birthing patients were drawn to deliver at Mercy West because of the midwifery care available and the embracing staff. Mercy West is known to provide compassionate, open-minded, evidence-based birthing options which are hard to find in Cincinnati. Midwives excel at providing low-intervention care and consistently improve birth outcomes and patient satisfaction.

We encourage Mercy West will fill the void left by the termination of the Seven Hills midwife team and find a way to continue offering a midwifery care option to patients birthing at Mercy West Hospital. The location and natural birthing suite at Mercy West have great appeal to the community and is widely regarded as a great place to birth, but midwives are an essential component. Without them many patients will go elsewhere. Mercy West, we implore you to fill the gap.

I have been reading your stories about the care you received and I am truly moved by how many families are impacted by this change. It is clear that this is about so much more than just a hospital policy because your experiences show me how vital these providers were to our community.

We need midwives. Those that choose to go go low to no intervention deserve the support and heart of the midwives. Taking away our choice to deliver in a hospital setting with a like-minded person will result in more home births so women feel supported in the way we want and deserve. OBs are amazing but it was the midwives that helped me have the guts to try for my VBAC. The OB told me I only had 38% chance and scheduled a C section. I rocked my VBAC, only pushing for 18 minutes. I would never have been able to say that without them.

Despite having birthed all three of my children via c-section, I always looked the most forward to my prenatal appointments with Cheyenne Brown. She is an amazing midwife and one of the *only* prenatal carers that actually listened to me and my concerns, despite there being no language to support them (& I turned out to be right). I cannot believe how short sided this decision is; women deserve access to the care they want and are comfortable with. Bring. Back. The. Midwifes.

I loved my recent experience delivering at Mercy Health on the west side with my midwife. However, without the option of a midwife, I will most likely not be utilizing this hospital in the future should I have another child. Please find a way to bring midwives back! Women need and deserve this option!

Absolutely devastated over this decision. My deliveries at Mercy West with the midwives of 7 Hills West Fork were incredibly empowering. The women of Cincinnati deserve to have the compassionate and competent care that these midwives provided.

As a local doula & birth advocate, the 7 Hills midwives at Mercy West were my number one recommendation to my clients seeking a compassionate, evidenced based & empowering birth. Without them, I will have to refer to another practice & facility for my clients.

My daughter was a patient of the Mercy West Midwives. As a first time, mid 30’s mom, she had lots of questions and concerns throughout her pregnancy and delivery. The midwives took great care in answering her questions and concerns. Even though she had a difficult delivery, the midwives who attended her were caring and patient. The follow up care postpartum was beyond expectations. We would like other expectant parents to receive the excellent care that my daughter and son-in-law experience during their recent pregnancy, delivery and postpartum.

Unjust for these much-needed midwives, as well as their patients, some of whom are now left to scramble at the 11th hour when they have enough on their plates. Unacceptable!
