The bus system out here is non-existent. How are these people supposed to get to work? This is a bad location for this.

I fail to see how there can be a fence. There are very few jobs in the region. There is a very run down strip mall in Claycomo which probably holds less than 100 part time jobs, and that's if you include the Pizza Hut. The jobs at Ford are long spoken for and hard to come by. This leaves Worlds of Fun, which is typically a summer type job for teenagers. There are two correlations that are irrefutable: low income housing and crime. If you doubt this statement and would like to have a local example, I would give you the Walmart located at I-70 and Blue Ridge. That was also a tall tale about the virtues of revitalization. There would be lots of accessible retail jobs, Blue Ridge Mall was dead, and of course it would drop crime in the area. Unfortunately, these things did not come to pass. However, even with the substantial loss of inventory due to theft, due to Kansas City's reckless abuse of TIF (basically allowing businesses to function with very, very low or no taxes) this location was earning as of a few years ago, nearly 20% profit margins, which is absolutely unheard of. This entire deal serves one purpose and one purpose only: to line the pockets of corrupt individuals attempting to cash in while dumping crime on an already very burdened area. The schools are overcrowded, over 70% of them are on free or assisted school lunches. What I really don't understand is that with all of the regions of Kansas City that are abandoned and adorned with blight, why would they be looking to cart these people out of downtown? Especially with all this new money to revitalize downtown such as a street car and new, hip, urban development? Hmm. Perhaps I shall have to find out...

I am on the fence as I know the area in question of development. Are these affordable housing units section 8 or just income based? Are these individuals with children not entitled to a better education? There is a need for these developments. The average age of a homeless person in KC MO is 7. Each night 2,000 children sleep in boxes or shelters that they are allowed into, which is mostly none of them. Creating these newer areas might improve the existing section 8 housing such as Parvin Estates, which has a high rate of crime. There is public transit and there are a few strip malls, hotels, gas stations, and Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun, along with an industrial park not far from there. Claycomo is right up the highway on 435 which has Ford and many other related jobs with great incomes. Those in college without parents could also apply to live in these homes until they can get on their feet as adults. I would like to know more about the cons, not just for reasons that it makes your newer neighborhoods look bad and you are afraid of the kind of people are coming into the Northland. Sociologically speaking, the people being moved from the area will be of color and most likely have little to no income, live on W.I.C. and Food Stamps, as well as medicare for families. In order to pass the application for subsidized housing, one is put through several tests including a background check, criminal check, and cannot be on probation, or ever have been convicted for any drug offense. So, if that is what you are worried about, don't be. I live in a great neighborhood and we have white hoodlums that attend Park Hill Schools running around stealing out of our cars and garages. So, I would like for information.
