Stop the #NorthernPowercut
We want the Chancellor to put his money where his mouth is next week – and immediately get the electrification of the Manchester to Leeds train route back on track.
Our campaign calls for:
- a firm timetable for completion
- NO cash to be handed to London’s £20bn CrossRail 2 project until that is in place
Our call for action is being backed by rail passengers, business leaders and Greater Manchester politicians of all parties – including the entire ‘super council’, the region’s interim mayor and MPs from across the political spectrum.
Please join us in trying to get a fair deal for the North.

It's a disgrace that the powers that be in the south can see no further than Watford. The North and especially the North west bring billions into the economy and deserve infrastructure that is appropriate to that level of contribution
It's a scandal that people in the north are given second hand rolling stock and 8% of transport infrastructure spending. The government is happy to take the same tax contributions from everyone, wherever they live, but then distributes it unfairly.
This is far more important to the North West than HS2 which will definitely overrun the £50bn budget to save just 1hr (at best) travelling to London. Makes a bit of a nonsense of the government hot air about creating a Northern Powerhouse!
It's been near enough 20 years since privatisation and some places in the North are still using stock that British Rail were going to get rid of. Sardine can trains and outmoded diesel-only lines are not what such a potential filled place needs.
Yes, TransPennine electrification must integrate with HS3. No, that is no excuse for not electrifying the existing "classic" route through Huddersfield. TransPennine electrification must be COMPLETED before the start of building Crossrail 2.
The poor train service across the region mean large areas of Manchester regions not covered by any rail or tram network, resulting on reliance on motorway. in OL2 district no access to tram, train, poor bus network. Commute to Liverpool to work impossible without car and now being pressured to stop using the car by 2040, as the M60/62 Smart Motorway upgrade is running late and no sign of completion, the NW is poor for commitment to any kind of transport upgrade. London are shamefully restricting resource and commitment to management of any type of infrastructure improvements in NW needs urgent attention.
All the northern M.P.s seem to be asleep an not fighting hard enough for the north . As usual London and the southeast gets everything they want

Yet another empty promise to get our votes. I work in the industry and I am sick of seeing promises broken year after year and no investment north of Watford. Each party has promised and failed to deliver when given the chance. It must stop now.
