Stop using tax-payers' money on failed garden communities project
ASK OUR COUNCILS TO STOP DIVERTING "NEW HOMES BONUS" TO NORTH ESSEX GARDEN COMMUNITIES VANITY PROJECT.
Colchester, Braintree, Tendring and Essex councils have already diverted a combined £2m of New Homes Bonus / reserves to "North Essex Garden Communities Ltd", a company with no job to do.
Now they have been asked to supply a further £100,000 each. This has got to stop. The three garden communities were rejected by the inspector and, until a new plan is found sound, NEGC Ltd should be wound down. What is this money being spent on? Where is the transparency?
"North Essex Garden Communities" is an unpopular and risky vanity
project, which ignores local people. We should not be wasting any more
of local residents money on it.
What is NEGC Ltd?
It is a 'delivery vehicle' which was set up to build 42,000 homes in the three garden towns which have now been thrown out by the inspector. The Inspector estimated that it will take two or three years to carry out the work needed on a new plan. NEGC Ltd therefore has nothing to deliver.
NEGC has five directors: John Spence (ECC), Graham Butland (Braintree's Leader), Neil Stock (Tendring's Leader), Tim Young (Colchester's Deputy Leader) and Richard Bayley (Managing Director). This is their press release: https://www.colchester.gov.uk/info/cbc-article/?ca...
The decision about whether to send a further £100,000 to NEGC Ltd will be made at cabinet meetings in November and December. Please sign to say no more money to NEGC.
