Are you a student from Louise Arbour currently enrolled at Banting? As of September 2024 you will be taken out of Banting and forced to attend Clarke Road.

The following petition, along with the views of many parents in our community, is suggesting a grandfathering system - everyone currently at Banting and any of their siblings would be able to stay at Banting.

This system is currently recognized as “Legacy”. It is proposed that students who will already have completed (by minimum) grade 9 will be able to remain at their school. Their younger siblings will be able to also go to the same school when it is their time to enroll. Please sign this petition if you want this system instead of being forced to attend Clarke Road!

Reasons to sign this petition:

  • If our voices are not heard, students from Louise Arbour, including the students currently enrolled at Banting, will be forced to attend Clarke Road
  • Clarke Road will be farther than Banting for many families
  • Banting has a great French program whereas the French program at Clarke Road will be new, less developed and lacking in the constructive aspect of Banting's current French immersion program.
  • The Trustees are revoking our choice - we do not have the choice to stay at Banting, even if the sports/academics are better developed and robust
  • If you are in 9th or 10th grade, you will be forced to change schools in the vital 11th and 12th grades.
  • The mental health of many students will shift because of the many social groups/friendships that will be broken due to the redistribution of students
  • Contrary to the hope for expansion of French Immersion, there will be more hesitation in grade 8 students planning to continue to French Immersion. The program will receive a different reputation when current Banting students will be impacted in the ways listed. The opinions of parents will also change this reputation because it may not be accessible for their families to allow their children to continue to French immersion. The funding will be divided which will result in less/lower quality French courses, whicj doesn’t benefit anyone’s education
  • Please sign this if you are: A student at Banting, a student at Louise Arbour, or a family member affected by this
