PLEASE....SIGN THIS PETITION!!
We need to come together to make a difference!!
Our children need your help! Our children have just settled in their classes in their first week of school, brand new year, brand new teacher, starting to learn at a much different level. 6th grade is supposed to be a year of wonderful change, not taking away. Please help us fight to keep our children's education from becoming weaker! The district has taken away a teacher and is creating havoc. They are taking 2 straight grade 7 classes and 2 straight grade 6 classes to now create 1 straight grade 7, 1- 6/7 split and 3 - 5/6 split classes and increase each class to 30 children!! How are children supposed to learn while they're making teachers teach two different grade levels to so many children??? Please help us stop this from happening. They never gave us a choice or any time to make a decision as a parent!
This is their future!! Please help us make a difference!!!
This last minute decision took us all by surprise today!
This
is not going to benefit our children whatsoever by combining the
different grades. Not only they are increasing class size which takes
away from our children's education, now they're combining the different
grade levels. How do we expect the teacher to teach our kids by
over-sizing the class and to teach two different grade levels in the
same room at the same time?!
As parents, nobody asked us how we feel about this decision. As a parent of 3 children in this school, nobody has given us time to choose if these are conditions that I want my children to be taught in, as I'm sure many of you feel the same way.
I am starting a petition to keep this from happening and I would like it if all of you parents willing to join this fight for our children's future? We need to do this as a group otherwise it's non-effective. If we can come together, hopefully we can make a difference for our children!!
Thank you all for your support,

The district is ignoring our requests for a meeting so we need to escalate our pressure immediately. Email your school board representative today to demand they stop splitting these classrooms. Post this link on your Facebook page and text three neighbors so they understand how these changes will hurt our students.

The real time rearranging of kids and classrooms is an insane way to start the school year. My child is a mess every year, riddled with anxiety and tearful each day. I'd like to see the data on how much this strategy actually saves the district. It appears that the emotional cost to our kids (and their parents!) is not a consideration.
A change like this after school classes have been set and teacher's workplans and classrooms have been set are extremely disruptive and stressful for everyone involved. Splitting a peer group four ways is not conducive to strong peer bonds and having those strong friendships going into highschool.
Average class size in BC grade 4-7 is 25.9 students per class. With these changes there will be 30 in the new classes with new/substitute teachers teaching two curriculums. This is not winning. This is how students fall through the cracks. Disappointed!
As a teacher, I know how frustrating it can be when funding and budget cuts disrupt classrooms and prevent the student's best interests from being put first. This is a disgraceful situation. I support this petition.
My son has been in split classes for the last 2 years. We also lost a division and a teacher on Friday after the first week of school. This year I believe we will have more split classes than ones with just a single grade.
Amen to this comment!!!! You are absolutely right!
Education in Canada, and BC specifically has been bad already. And it is becoming even worse, so stopping the process is essential for our future. Sign the petition and demand good teaching practice on every day basis - talk to teacher, talk to principles, check your kids home assignments/etc. The school is not a playground or daycare, it is an education tool, which has to deliver good results. Our action should not stop at signing this petition.

This choice is likely a direct result of the Ministry of Education's requirement that schools have a 95% utilization. That, and the need to help manage classroom composition in one of the only ways they still have available to them. Schools need sufficient funding to meet the needs of the children they have.
