Mayor Elicker is raising taxes 6%, increasing spending $27 million, and adding 25 employees to the City payroll. The tax increase comes despite a cash windfall of $100 million from the Feds, a $49 million increase in State PILOT funds, and a $10 million increase in Yale contributions.

What’s worse is Elicker’s tax increase does nothing for homeowners. He hasn’t presented a plan to address quality of life issues such as traffic enforcement, noise complaints, loitering, and trash. And his budget does nothing to make it easier for residents to receive city services. For examples, residents can’t reach Public Works by email, book a bulk trash appointment online, and the x6316 non-emergency number is a farce.

Meanwhile, the Mayor has reneged on his larger promises like fixing LCI and being transparent. In fact, the Mayor hasn’t shared the mill rate assumptions, or an excel version of the budget, and his department heads were unable to answer basic budget questions when testifying before the Board of Alders.

Please join me in saying NO to Mayor Elicker’s tax increase.

I started this because I was frustrated with the lack of answers about our money but I never imagined so many other people felt exactly the same way. The stories you are sharing about the struggle to keep up with basic city services are the reason this has grown beyond anything I expected. I am still working to organize all the questions you have raised for the upcoming budget meetings.

I am honestly stunned by how many neighbors have stepped up to push back against this budget. This momentum belongs entirely to the people who are tired of being ignored. Thank you for showing everyone that we are paying attention.

As lifelong resident of New Haven and homeowner for 20 years, we are receiving less basic services in our neighborhoods and now we are looking at higher taxes. This is simply wrong. Increase revenue to New Haven should be passed along to the taxpaying homeowners who are the financial backbone of the city.

I m tired of paying taxes to the City of New Haven as a business and land owner and getting very little for it. The roads and streets are a disaster and sidewalks are a mess.

Tax hike = rent hike. Property taxes are up 50% in the last decade. In a year flush with cash, now is the time to get control of New Haven's spiraling property tax increases.

Stop the increase. Senior citizens are stretched really thin as it is. The increase would only cause more stress and financial problems.

Everyone is learning to more with less. With the additional funding the city is receiving, eg: federal, city , and Yale , why do we need to spend more than allocated!

I am very disappointed in the Mayor. With overinflated reval, there is so much room to decrease the mill rate dsignificantly.

This mayor needs to GO.

I voted for you, and will do so again if you really listen to what the citizens are saying.
