To the Shoreline City Council:
You are poised to place a referendum on the ballot this fall calling for a "levy lid lift." We understand that without any lid lift, property tax revenue increases will be limited to 1% per year, which is not enough to cover inflation. That is no excuse, however, for a levy rate that represents a 20% local property tax increase (or higher). Such a massive tax increase, particularly with the specter of yet another massive tax increase in six years, is intolerable.
If the rate you choose represents a double-digit local property tax increase, I will print and distribute flyers to my neighbors, urging them to vote "no."
I urge you to consider a significantly lower levy rate, one that has a chance of successful passage in November.

im still having conversations with neighbors who are genuinely worried about how theyll afford to stay in their homes if this hike goes through. the council hasnt responded yet but they know we are paying attention to what they decide next.

i honestly cant believe how fast this is moving. seeing so many people speak up about these taxes is unreal and it shows the council just how much we care about this.

I am on a fixed income of only ss and simply cannot afford increases such as this. I love my home and could not afford to live anywhere else.
The level of subterfuge in the city's presentation of their case is astounding. Anyone who devotes the time can connect these tax increases to unfunded infrastructure and services in the city staff's upzone fantasies.
City Council, you are forcing your vision of Ridgecrest onto the people of Ridgecrest ie) large scale growth in a single family neighborhood, and now you want us to pay for your decision to overbuild our area. I vote No.
Your small businesses will be taxed out of business. You need to look at the big picture. We are looking at a King County property evaluation raise of about 10% + Shoreline wants to add 14% on top of that. Simple terms that's 24%. The only way I can afford that is to stop paying for full medical insurance for my employees.
The numbers being presented by city staff on this issue are demonstrably false. Who believes that mean 2016 property assessments will be only 2.9% higher than in 2015. (Mine increased 11%.)
We as a community have spent the past 2 years expressing to you, our respresentatives, that we are excited about growth and rapid transit. But we are NOT okay with our government wiping out our neighborhoods with downtown-sized 65-85 foot tall apartments. We are looking at losing the culture and character of our town due to the massive growth you have voted for AGAINST the peoples' will. It is unacceptable that you are in, IN ADDITION, attempting to add significantly higher tax rates to the current residents, specifically to allow you to expand growth and increase the profits of developers. If developers want to build in Shoreline, then it is THEY who should be paying the additional taxes for the burden placed on our community.

I'm concerned about retirement with continuingly increasing property taxes. I'm a single homeowner, and may be retiring in the next 4 or 5 years. Such a high rate as proposed would be a financial hardship for me.
