As a citizen and taxpayer of the State of Georgia, I petition the Governor, the State Board of Education, the State School Superintendent, and the Georgia General Assembly to take every action necessary to rescind the State’s participation in Race to the Top, the Common Core State Standards, any agreement to share student data with the federal government or any other governmental or private entity, any national-testing consortium , and any scheme (such as No Child Left Behind waivers) that requires such participation. Georgia’s citizens, who pay approximately $13 billion annually in state and local taxes for education, have the constitutional right to exercise 100 percent control over the content standards in our public schools through our duly elected representatives in the Georgia Senate and the Georgia House.

Reaching one hundred signatures indicates that many people share these concerns regarding local control of our classrooms. It is encouraging to see this quiet conversation grow into a collective effort to reexamine our educational standards.

Ridiculous - especially for a 2nd grader on what she has to figure out on math problems. Seven year olds do not have the attention span to read a paragraph of "clue" information just to figure out what 36+52 equals . And 3 different ways to show it . Unreal

I have been teaching for 18 years and I believe common core is the worst thing ever we can to our children. Common core is stressing out teachers causing many great teachers to leave the field. We have got to get rid of Common Core before if

My child and every child I know is struggling under common core. The standards were not field tested. It'll take 12 years to see how this works. I'm pulling my daughter out of first grade to homeschool. This is a power grab by our government.

My straight A son is now coming home with C's and F's. Even though he knows the answer he is getting problems wrong for not completing all the steps. My child as a right to fair education and not be left behind. Extremely mad at this system!

I am against common core in GA. I pay taxes and was given no say on my child's education. I am unable to assist with homework as the curriculum is confusing to adults. Our kids are given no rights in the outcome of their education. I want the right to say no!

Our children are not being taught the skills they need how to be able to think and reason for themselves. Common core = a lowest common denominator education for all. If we are striving for the "dumbing down of America", we are succeeding.

The last two years of the Georgia Milestone Test proves that Common Core is a failure. The average state scores in all subjects from grades 3-8 are around 30 to 40%. The test grades like a report card 60 or 70% is a failing grade. It is time to start teaching our students again and follow the lead of the increasing number of states that are repealing Common Core.
