As a citizen and taxpayer of the State of Minnesota, I petition the Governor, the Department of Education, the Board of School Administrators, and the Minnesota Legislature to take every action necessary to rescind and/or terminate Minnesota’s participation in Race to the Top, the Common Core State Standards, any agreement to share student data with the federal government or any other governmental or private entity, any national-testing consortium , and any scheme (such as No Child Left Behind waivers) that requires such participation.
Common Core State Standards are inferior to Minnesota’s standards, serve as a vehicle for Federal control over local public education and make local control obsolete. Minnesota’s citizens, who pay approximately $16.5 billion annually in state and local taxes for education, have the constitutional right to exercise 100% control over the content and standards in our public schools through our duly elected representatives in the Minnesota Senate and the Minnesota House.

The Minnesota Department of Education thinks they can ignore us while they surrender our local control to federal bureaucrats. We are almost at one thousand signatures and I need you to force this into the hands of every legislator by getting more people to sign right now.

The bureaucrats in the Department of Education and the state legislature are finally starting to feel the heat from our movement. We have hit a turning point that makes it impossible for them to continue ignoring our demand to kill these destructive federal standards.

Don't teach to the test. Our children deserve to be taught through hands-on learning and play, not ridiculous standards that encourage schools to cut back on gym and recess so kids can spend even more time sitting silently at a desk.
WE have to keep our kids education control at our local level. We do not need or want Washington to run our schools. What works in a large metro area does not always work in a rural school.
Important to stop CCSS for many reasons, data mining, lowering the bar for academics etc. Since the NGA and the CCSSO own and copyright the standards there is no state, local, or parental control with the CCSSO. Please stop the implementation of CCSS
My kids are in private school and common core has no place in schools like that OR in public schools either. Education is a states' rights issue! Common core takes away a parent's right to exercise control of the content and the quality of education. This is a national government overreach into local school AND parental affairs!
MN students and schools often out perform other states. Please don't sacrifice our strong education system for a small amount of grant money. That grant money comes with strings, or rather ropes, attached.
Sen Rubio nailed it..Though Jeb Bush and John Kasich defend Common Core as mere recommendations, NO QUESTION these recommendations inevitably become law down the road, given Washington's obsession with control over all of us
Arne Duncan said that the best money he spent in Chicago was the money he spent to keep the schools open longer, Chicago leads the Nation in teen age murders! The Politicians have ruined the Family and now they want to devise a substitute for it.

I grew up in St. Paul and lived there until I joined the Army. I got out and found a job in Syracuse, NY. As bad as it is in NY, the fight against CC out here is making headway and turning a large group fighting. I would like to move back to MN, so fighting for my kids education where ever I go is what I'm about.
