It is important during this pandemic that the city makes good financial decisions with our tax dollars. Building a 28 million dollar ice arena is not beneficial to OUR city. Our tax dollars deserve a better investment for OUR YOUTH. Please sign and allow all individuals over the age of 18 in your household to sign the petition if you live within the Bowie City limits to stop this project completely!! The City Council will vote on Monday, May 18th at 8:00pm. We need signatures before 6:00pm on the 18th. Also you can send emails to the Council by 6:30pm on the 18th to [email protected] expressing your opposition to this project.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you have stepped up to question this spending. If you know anyone else in Bowie who feels the same way please send this their way so we can hit that next milestone before the meeting.

I am not in support of an Ice skating ring in the assigned area. It is crazy to put one in this spot. Spend 10million and renovate the old one in Allen Pond. Spend the other 18million on something everyone can use. Thank you,
The $$$ directed to fund the ice skating rink should be directed toward a gym that is larger than the existing gym and will serve basketball, volleyball and pickleball. On any given night the current gym is heavily utilized by Bowie citizens. No to the ice rink.
No, no, no to the ice arena. As someone said, this is a predominantly African Amercian community and it is a slap in the face to us taxpayers to ask us to pay for this when most of our kids do not participate in the sport. Put it in their backyard.
We simply cannot afford this luxury item when we are going to be confronted with fewer tax dollars as a result of the Coronavirus. It is best to take the loss. It will be awhile before the economy bounces back. Issue a Termination for the Convenience of the City of Bowie, Maryland.
The City Manager said the Bowie budget is going to impacted by Covid-19 in way not fully understood at this point. To proceed blindly with a multi-million complex at this time is unwise. This should have posed as a bond funding question in the last city election.

If you were told your neighborhood would generate a million dollars/month in revenue by the addition of a German restaurant 3 miles away and with those funds you and your neighbors would experience a $1000 annual reduction off your monthly mortgage, would you say scrap the project because you nor your family didn't eat German food? 2. Bowie's AAA Bond rating will be negatively impacted if this project is scrapped. Do you know what that means? Research the impact before signing this petition. 3. Do you know the history of this project? 4. Have you ready the feasibility study for this project? 5. Do you know the funds for this project have already been allocated and have nothing to do with emergency funds to address the pandemic? 6. Do you know how much of the $24 million has already been spent on this project? 7. How do you propose getting back the millions of dollar that have already been spent on this project? 8. What will be gained from scrapping this project? 9. What will be lost by scrapping this project? 10. The money allocated for this project CANNOT be used to fund a different project....however noble the cause....are you aware of that? 11. If you raised/earned/inherited 8 million dollars and invested your money with Janus . Then a different CEO takes over at Janus and doesn't like how you invested the funds under the previous regime and tells you to turn over your 8 million dollars to the current CEO and you have no choice in the matter despite any contracts that were signed, would you be okay with that? 11. Are you aware of the amount of revenue that can be generated from the building of this ice-plex? 12. Why are you opposed to the rink being built instead of advocating a portion of the revenue be used to build the "restaurant" that serves food your family eats OR a facility you are more likely use? Food for thought....

The community does not want or need this ice rink. The roads leading to the facility are not sufficient to carry the increased load of traffic. Please build this facility elsewhere and not in the midst of residential communities that don't want, and won't use, it.
