Before Signing this petition, answer the following questions:
1. If you were told your neighborhood would generate a million dollars/month in revenue by the addition of a German restaurant 3 miles away and with those funds you and your neighbors would experience a $1000 annual reduction off your monthly mortgage, would you say scrap the project because you nor your family didn't eat German food?
2. Bowie's AAA Bond rating will be negatively impacted if this project is scrapped. Do you know what that means? Research the impact before signing this petition.
3. Do you know the history of this project?
4. Have you ready the feasibility study for this project?
5. Do you know the funds for this project have already been allocated and have nothing to do with emergency funds to address the pandemic?
6. Do you know how much of the $24 million has already been spent on this project?
7. How do you propose getting back the millions of dollar that have already been spent on this project?
8. What will be gained from scrapping this project?
9. What will be lost by scrapping this project?
10. The money allocated for this project CANNOT be used to fund a different project....however noble the cause....are you aware of that?
11. If you raised/earned/inherited 8 million dollars and invested your money with Janus . Then a different CEO takes over at Janus and doesn't like how you invested the funds under the previous regime and tells you to turn over your 8 million dollars to the current CEO and you have no choice in the matter despite any contracts that were signed, would you be okay with that?
11. Are you aware of the amount of revenue that can be generated from the building of this ice-plex?
12. Why are you opposed to the rink being built instead of advocating a portion of the revenue be used to build the "restaurant" that serves food your family eats OR a facility you are more likely use?
Food for thought....

This country/Bowie especially needs full size (meaning not just 4ft play pools) indoor pool facilities.

People talk about cost ....short sighted. What about future revenue? "Without vision the people perish". Ice-skating has saved my young African American daughter's life. See link below:
Ice arena in Ward 7 provides equipment, makes it possible for anyone to figure skate

I will never support a petition that seeks to destroy an ice rink and will be anyone's worst nightmare who tries. Plenty of places to play basketball.....not many places in this county for children of color to learn Ice-skating ⛸ or ice hockey

Include what the children in this area actually play like basketball, racketball, and hand ball. Not one child I spoke to in my area of Bowie actually ice skate. Roller skate, now you have a plan!

The community does not need an ice rink. It needs a park for the children in the area as it was originally intended in the master plan for the community.

It is reprehensible that there would be the building of an Ice Area that will primarily serve non-Bowie and non-PG county residents, but with Bowie Tax-Payer dollars. Why not put it to a referendum and let the people of Bowie decide instead of allowing people from other counties decide on something that all indications show will primarily serve residents from Howard and Anne Arundel Counties. Do you think those counties would allow PG country and Bowie residents to build a multi=million dollar basketball arena in their communities with Anne Arundel County tax payer dollars?!!!! These seems structurally racist and should be reported to all of the major news outlets for an investigation.
There is a serious need for another quality basketball recreational facility in the city of Bowie since the Bowie City Gym has become way too crowded due to high demand because of the growing popularity of basketball with the youth. Build a new basketball facility. Put these issues to a community referendum.

They should build more schools in Bowie instead of ice arena. They love to put things in our community that are not beneficial to the growth of Bowie

I just don't think we are past the point of no return yet. With the major unceertainty in future revenues due to COVID-19 it is prudent to put he brakes on this project. I also think the use of the sunk costs for the various impact studies shouldn't be used as rationale for blindly pushing forward. Those costs that would have been spent anyway regardless of any decision to move forward are just that, the cost of making an informed decision. The costs associated with early termination are the only relevant costs and those are much less than $8M.

As a Bowie resident, I think we need to encourage our elected officials to responsibly use our city's resources, especially in light of the COVID 19 crisis.
