We, the undersigned, hereby request the installation of a stop sign at the intersections of SHAWMUT AVENUE and LENOX STREET; for Southwest bound Shawmut Ave traffic. MULTIPLE accidents have occurred at this exact same intersection as witnessed by locals.
On September 7th, 2016, I almost lost my life due to lack of traffic control at the said above intersection. I will fight until something is done to help save the life/lives of other people.
Below is a post I posted on FB the day of the incident:
"Every time I go towards my mother's job her && I comment on how the intersection of Shawmut Ave && Lenox St NEEDS a stop sign . I made a full stop && this morning I was made an example of WHY that place NEEDS a stop sign ! Idk what I have to do to make a petition but I'll find a way ! By the GRACE OF GOD I made it , unfortunately my car didn't but my life somehow did && that's all that matters . I'm in terrible shape but nothing is broken && I'm alive so I'm not worried . All I kept thinking was what if someone's kid was waiting for the bus or playing over the fence I ran through ? But something HAS to be done && I'll make sure my voice is heard someway , somehow . . ."

The emails from neighbors describing their own near misses at this intersection are hard to read. I am still pushing for a meeting with the department despite the lack of initial response. We deserve to feel safe crossing the street near our homes.

Reaching this level of support feels heavy because it confirms I am not the only one who sees the danger at this intersection. It has been a long and exhausting road but seeing so many people agree that we deserve to be safe gives me a reason to keep pushing.

Thank you Marlene for starting the petition to put a "STOP" sign. Your action will improve the safety of the drivers, and pedestrians around. I'm also very glad that you are well, and alive.
