Lidl are proposing the building of a new store in Nailsea. The store will rob Nailsea town centre of a large proportion of it's currently free parking spaces and may therefore mean parking charges being imposed. The development will also mean the felling of a number of mature trees thus diminishing the visual amenity of the area. We are not against Lidl, or any other discounter, setting up in Nailsea, we are only against the proposed location and it's impact on the usability and accessibility of the town centre.

UPDATE - There IS a possible alternative location for the store which would allow Lidl to have its own car park. The Nailsea Police Station is for sale and the site appears to offer enough space for the proposed development.

Lidl recently held a "consultation" event regarding the proposed development. Residents of Nailsea were given less than a weeks's notice of this so called consultation and it was held between 10 am and 5 pm thus denying many people who have to work during this hours the chance to participate. The flyer announcing the consultation mentions ways in which could express support for the scheme, but nowhere that you could state an opposing view. This petition is meant to redress this omission.
