We, the undersigned, demand that North Devon Council use any and all statutory powers to prevent the loss of the Ilfracombe Bus Station site to high-density housing.  We consider the site to be critical to the successful development of the Harbour Area, and in particular the stated objective of pedestrianising The Quay, which can only be achieved by providing alternative Car Parking facilities nearby.  (c.f. Ilfracombe Harbour Board Strategic Development Plan 2009; Ilfracombe Seafront Public Consultation 2008; Ilfracombe Town Centre Study 2005; etc.)

As a result of the historic opportunity presented by the availability of this site; the presence of other locations more suited to residential development within the Town; and overwhelming local desire for the Bus Station site to be used in an integrated scheme that will permit the wider Harbour development objectives to be achieved, we petition North Devon Council to protect this unique site for Ilfracombe.

Updates

October 23, 2010

North Devon Council needs to wake up because our momentum shows that Ilfracombe is finished with their reckless development plans. They can ignore the strategic plans from years ago but they cannot ignore the wall of opposition we have built together. This fight to save our bus station site is just getting started.
