As a citizen and taxpayer of the State of Washington, I petition the Governor, the State Board of Education, the State School Superintendent, and every other entity invloved in Public Education to take every action necessary to rescind the State’s participation in Race to the Top, the Common Core State Standards, any agreement to share student data with the federal government or any other governmental or private entity, any national-testing consortium , and any scheme (such as No Child Left Behind waivers) that requires such participation. Washingtons citizens, who pay approximately $8 billion annually in state and local taxes for education, have the constitutional right to exercise 100 percent control over the content standards in our public schools through our duly elected representatives in the Washington State and the Washington House.

im spending my spare time reading up on how our school boards are actually handling these standards so i can put together a better plan for our next steps. people have been sending me some eye opening messages about what they are seeing in their own local classrooms and it just confirms that we have to keep pushing for local control.

i cant believe how many people are jumping on board with this now. it feels like folks are finally waking up to the issue of local control and im seriously ready to get this moving.

Common core causes an over-complication of simple math and causes children to have many difficulties processing information the way the mind naturally should.
No child left behind has "left my child behind". He is 17 and doesnt know half of what he should. He is now struggling to do the GED on his own with no help from a school system that intentionally pushed him through grade after grade without teaching him. No child left behind is hindering our children. STOP THE COMMON CORE IN WA SCHOOLS PLEASE. Our children come first, not the "statistics" or the money. Our children, our future.
common core made it impossible for our son to learn.He later tried home school and that didn't work either.He is now 18 an enrolled with job core and is a leader in his dorm,completed his GED in 2 months is getting his high school deploma and also doing his trade work to be a nurse to help people.no thanks to common core
CCSS is NOT just standards. It is a noxious, federal hand strangling the life out of our children's education.
All of these components in the petition are a violation of the 10th Amendment. Common core must be stopped.
Get rid of this rediculous crap it's destroying the kids will to learn! Unreal how stupid people in our government is!!!!

"The dumbing down of America" (aka Common Core) needs to be removed from our school systems now. It has taken simple math problems and turned them into full-page problems and left our children and grandchildren questioning their abilities to problem solve. This is a horrible system and needs to be removed from our schools NOW!
