The city council officially rejected the rezoning application and the distillery plans are off the table. I am honestly stunned by how things turned out but this success belongs entirely to the people who spoke up. Please keep an eye on local meetings just to be sure things stay this …

We, the residents of Thistle Downs and surrounding neighborhoods, opose the request to amend the existing residential zoning to allow a distillery at 5295 Asbury Road.

We demand that the City of Murfreesboro Planning Commision and City Council deny the application for the rezoning.

A distillery does not belong next to a residential community.

Our concerns are:

- environmental pollutants including whiskey fungus

- property value decline

- noise, light and smell pollution

- increased traffic, including semi trucks driving through our neighborhood causing safety hazards for our children

- fire hazard of flammable liquids

For the foregoing reasons, we urge you to vote against the proposed rezoning.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the momentum this has gained lately. This movement belongs entirely to the neighbors who are looking out for our community. Please keep pushing because your dedication is the only reason we are being taken seriously.

Why would anyone consider a distillery in the center of a residential neighborhood. I suggest the Murfreesboro City Council members take a field trip down to Lynchburg to the Jack Daniels distillery and take note of the fact that a black fungus-like mold is rampant on cars and trees in the area. Shame on anyone that approves this request.

We moved to Murfreesboro two years ago from Dallas, TX. There is a reason why we chose this side of town! My husband and I have four dogs and we are having a baby next year. I do not want to, rephrase that, I will not raise children in an unsafe and toxic environment. This neighborhood should be preserved for its existing and future residents.

We agree with all the concerns and add that the road to be used has no speed limit signs and trucks and cars speed dangerously down there. People walk, bike and jog this road. There would be even more traffic and danger.

There needs to be better definition between residential and commercial land. The area of this proposed distillery is in a primarily residential area. Put it out off Epps Mill or Joe B Jackson where there is plenty of commercial property. Time to start thinking about your citizens and not the revenue

I live on Bumblebee and have asthma and other breathing difficulties. The fumes from the distillery might cause problems for me that would force us to move.

Due to health, environmental and safety concerns, I urge you not to consider rezoning. The property is residential and changing it is not appropriate to the neighborhood it's in. Whiskey fungus does not belong in backyards and semi trucks should not be driving in neighborhoods where kids play in the street.
