This petition is to request Stocksbridge High School and its academy trust, The Minerva Learning Trust, change their new policy (just introduced for current Year 9s) of only allowing pupils to take 8 GCSEs back to allowing those who want to take 9 to do so.

We understand taking 8 may be preferential for some pupils but feel that the choice of taking 8 or 9 GCSEs should be made by pupils and their parents rather than the school limiting all pupils to just 8.

Please note offering at least 9 GCSEs to pupils is standard for the vast majority of high schools in England including nearby Penistone.

There was no consultation with parents. Husband just happened onto it as we have a Year 8 when he was looking at the Year 9 options book. Stocksbridge High School responded that they don't have to tell us of when they make curriculum changes.

This will put the pupils at a disadvantage when applying for further education and training. It will also restrict their choices of subject as 5/6 are compulsory. Where was the consultation with parents?

My year 8 will be taking 9 or 10 GCSEs when the time comes. If the school refuses to accommodate that, we will move schools.

I am against the idea of only 8 GCSE subjects at Stocksbridge High School next school year term

I agree with this issue raised here, the school should be enabling and supporting those students who wish to take more GCSEs, I certainly do not agree with limiting those with aspirations to do more. Equally those who take decisions and do not wish to under more, should be respected also

It is unfair to offer only 2 optional GCSEs to children. Children who go in further education normally study THREE or FOUR A-level subjects, if the child doesn't have the option to study these subjects at GCSE they won't be allowed to study them at A-level. Totally unacceptable!

The School has gradually become a disgrace to the community.

Its a bad practice for a headteacher to not communicate this to parents.
