Dear Ms Jerri King and Ms Nahla Nasser,
We received your email about the cancellation of the Nutcracker performance by the Primary students. We are dismayed and disappointed as this has been a school tradition for long time and done so well by the Primary teachers. It is the only showcase for the Primary level children that incorporates all the children and does not exclude anyone. It has been an opportunity for the children to display what they learned for the semester at holiday time and they are always so excited to be a part of it. We have not felt it takes a substantial time away from the classroom and it teaches them invaluable lessons of speaking and performing in groups and in public.
We would like to discuss with your administration further on the decision-making around this cancellation and appeal if there is any format we can resurrect this for the Primary classes.
Sincerely,
The Primary Parents of 2019-2020
The nutcracker is the best thing St Stephen’s does as a performance each year. It impacts more kids and parents than the school musical does and has had a more lasting impact on both of our children over the last three years. We love that The primary teachers get to run and take pride in it, and that they are respectful of the kids’ time (unlike the school musical). I am dismayed that it’s being cancelled for spurious-sounding reasons.
