We ask that this year’s Secondary School musical be reconsidered and changed from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Hadestown, or another musical that better reflects the values and needs of everyone involved.
Right now, the current choice is intended for the Elementary School, even though the Elementary School already has a musical this year: Disney Lion King Jr. That leaves the Secondary School cast with a production that does not fit the group taking part in it. Many of the students involved have been doing the musical for years, and for some this is a Senior Year musical. A production like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory does not take into account the age range, experience, and interests of the Secondary School participants.
A school musical should bring students together, give them a meaningful challenge, and let them feel proud of what they are putting on stage. It should match the people performing it, not just fill a slot on the calendar. We believe Hadestown, or another musical chosen with the whole cast in mind, would be a better fit and would create a more thoughtful and rewarding experience for everyone.
We are asking the school to listen to the concerns of the students and families who support this petition and to choose a musical that truly represents all involved.
I am signing because the seniors and other participants should have a voice in being able to choose the muscial experience they prefer. Charlie and the chocolate factory is better suited as an elementary school musical and any other musical , including HADESTOWN. would be much more appropriate.
