We the citizens, visitors, and business owners of Saint Augustine find that our city government has not done enough to protect us from panhandlers, vagrants, and their negative consequences. We are watching our businesses suffer, our city be destroyed, and see no leadership or even communication about the issue. We are told to wait on new ordinances that won't even work because they will be sued again. Then we are in the same boat after spending hundreds of thousands of dollars. We don't need the new ordinances to start the process of cleaning up the city. The problems we are facing are separate from the issue of homelessness. We have many homeless among our ranks. City management has referred to this as a CRISIS, yet they aren't acting like it. We see drug deals happening in the open, people passed out in the street, people openly drunk and high, and feces and urine all over our properties. Everyone signing here has in some way been affected by the issue and believes that the city has not done enough to address it. Maybe by banding together you will finally listen to us and DO SOMETHING. We demand action, communication, and leadership. Why are there no police walking downtown every single day? Why has the city not reached out and spoken to the business owners about how they are suffering? Why is there no hotline set up to call? Where are the cameras to monitor the issues we see EVERY SINGLE DAY? We will no longer stay silent on this issue. We need to be heard and respected. Read through the comments and hear the stories of your constituents calling for your help. It's time to stand up and take charge.

Two of my employees had their cars broken into last weekend at 10:30pm on a Saturday. The cameras that used to monitor our parking lot were collected by the local government all be focused on the statues in the center park area. When do monuments supersede human life and safety?

We recently had family visiting from WV. MY husband went to the public restrooms across from Crown and Bull and had a man approach him WHILE HE WAS AT THE URINAL asking for money!! The URINAL! Now, if that won't turn off a tourist, I don't know what will.

The inaction of timid elected officials is ruining St.Augustine's reputation as a pristine jewel of history, culture and pleasant visitor experiences. Why are the rights of those who live and visit here given lower priority than those of opportunistic and often unstable vagrants and addicts who prey upon us?

I stopped shopping in downtown St. Augustine because I am tired of be accosted for money. I drive to Jax or Palm Coast now to shop. If the city leaders won't address the issue then they need to be voted out of office

I watched a family here on vacation get chased out of a McDonald's by a drunk homeless man. There were about 7 in there all aggressive when asked to leave. I'm sure the rather large family will never vacation in st Augustine again.

I work at one of these businesses on St George street. It is getting very unsafe to work here. I've been yelled at, jumped at, cursed and I'm afraid soon I'll be looking elsewhere for employment. It used to be so fun downtown, now anything but.

I am afraid to enjoy our downtown with my kids or alone because of the aggressiveness and debauchery of the panhandlers there. Please do something to stop this!
