In light of the recent tragic accident that has occured on Wereton Road outside the Scout Hall, where a man was knocked down and his dog killed. I would like to propose that we install speed bumps at some point along Wereton Road, this would ensure that any traffic travelling at high-speed (like the car the other night) would slow down.

Wereton Road is very busy especially at school-time with mums and dads walking their children to and from school. With the pavements being so poor, I sometimes see elderly people on the roads, either walking or using mobility scooters, trying to avoid the slippery (especially in winter-time), broken pavements. Again, any car travelling at speed could easily knock them over - I believe speed bumps could help to stop this from happening. I think the sooner we act on this the better as now is the ideal time.

"Prevention is better than cure" and this could prevent future fatalities. Ourselves and our pets should be safe. The other night could have been so much worse.... Imagine if it was a few minutes later and one or more of the children leaving the scout hall were killed?!! This could be your child... my child... your father or your beloved pet. Let's come together as a community to prevent any further accidents.

Thank you.

October 20, 2016

I have been walking down Wereton Road every single morning this week to watch the traffic flow and the danger remains just as real as the day of the accident. Local council members have finally acknowledged my emails so I am currently preparing a formal report to submit to them. Please keep talking to your neighbors about this because the pressure we create together is the only thing that will force them to build those speed bumps.

Seeing this community unite after the accident on Wereton Road proves that we all share the same fear for our families. Your help gives me hope that we can finally make our streets safe for the children and neighbors who walk here every single day.

I have travelled along that road often and it is terrible. Cars travelling too fast and too many cars parked up. Goodness knows how emergency services are supposed to reach anyone. Most of the time it seems like a one way street as you can't get past parked cars. Cars drive too fast and if anything is coming the other way there is nowhere to go, this is likely to cause more accidents.

I agree the road has become much faster since parking on the other side of road and would add that some calming measures need to be in place to slow traffic turning down Hougher Wall Road too

Always been a rat run and accident waiting to happen- too many cars speeding up and down, narrow pavements and hardly any parking. I walk my dog along there everyday and have so many near misses with people dodging in and out of parked cars and going way faster than 30mph.

It was my fiances cousin who was knocked down and his poor puppy was killed. Something needs to be done so someone isn't killed!

As a resident on wereton road for 25 years I think the speed bumps would be a huge help towards the safety of the residents. I've witnessed plenty on near misses and collisions between motorists and pedestrians, and sometimes fatalities! It's not safe as it is at the minute and As I have 3 under 5year olds I can really appreciate the need for addressing this matter!

I live on Wereton Road, I'm not a great fan of speed bumps but we really do need some. Personally I think there should be a few through the village on Church Street too. People regularly drive at high speed through Church St and Wereton, it won't be long before someone is killed.
