Final supporters
Citizens pay for protection of life and property through their tax dollars, and they assume that their elected and appointed officials will make informed decisions regarding that protection. Too often, however, that decision making process has been based solely on budgetary expedience. Irrespective of the resources provided, citizens continue to believe that firefighters are prepared to provide an aggressive interior assault on fires, successfully accomplishing victim rescue, fire control, and property conservation. They do not expect firefighters to take defensive actions- to simply surround a fire and “drown it”- because to do so would be to concede preventable loss of both life and property. Not to mention greatly reduce the multiple other types of calls firefighters respond to: CO, Auto-X, Haz Mat, Confined Space, Industrial Fire/Rescue, Prevention programs, Medical Assist…to mention a few.

I have been reading through your stories about what our local fire services mean to you and the personal experiences you have shared are truly humbling. This entire effort is becoming something far larger than I ever imagined when I first hit publish. Please know that the credit for getting this issue in front of the right people belongs entirely to all of you.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people have come together to protect our fire services. This momentum belongs entirely to you because I never thought this would gain such traction. Thank you for showing how much our safety actually matters to this community.

Why the rush to push these cuts though, City Council? Very suspicious when every other topic is "studied" to death..eg. Boxing Day shopping and other recurring topics that do not have such an effect on public safety!
has an independent review been done to warrant this type of drastic cut? I would like to see how the data is interpreted and by whom with what agenda. Is there proof that these cuts would NOT jeopardize public and firefighter safety?
As someone who was a volunteer firefighter and first responder for 18 years I know the importance of maintaining staffing levels. A chief with any sense in his head at all would be fighting to maintain and increase the numbers of firefighters protecting this city. Shameful.
I can't believe that cutting emergency services by any amount is acceptable option for the city. Although an unpopular option, I would rather my taxes rise a little then to have cuts in services I hope I will never need, but hope will be there if I do. Shame on you city of Sault Ste Marie.
As a taxpayer I am totally appalled at this proposal to cut 25% of the firefighters. Robbing one service at pennies a day per household to to improve another service is not a safe move. Citizens of Sault Ste Marie deserve top services from all their emergency response agencies.
I consider the fire dept (full compliment) like my insurance policy. It is mandatory to carry insurance on my property I may not need it for years but when I do I'm sure glad it's there for my protection,much the same can be said about our fire, paramedics,and police depts. we may not need them anytime soon but when we do.wouldn't it be nice to know they will be there in full .........
We need all the firefighters not half of them.

We need every firefighter . They dont just fight fires. They are the Jaws of live in accidents, clean up crew when a bear ,moose or horse gets killed on our roads . there when you need help in a medical emergency. They are part of our EMS as well security for this city
